Born and raised in Leeds, Yorkshire, Barre's artistic talent
was apparent at an early age. After graduating from College, he attended
the University of Leeds College of Art, studying Commercial Art. He emigrated
to Canada with his family in 1966, and for the next 20 years held the position
of Art Director in the advertising/marketing field.
During his early years in Canada, Barre was inspired by the
beauty of the Lakes and Country side around the Haliburton and Kawartha
areas, which he hopes he has been able to capture in his many landscape
paintings.
Barre started painting in oil in the late 6O's, but graduated
to watercolour in 1989, when he took his first watercolour workshop with
Edwin Mathews at the Buckhorn school of Fine Art. He now paints exclusively
in watercolour and exhibits his paintings in three galleries.
Upon retiring in 1989, he turned professional and has had Solo
and numerous group shows including - Lindsay Art Gallery, Peterborough
Art Festival, Kawartha's Annual Art Festival, The Buckhorn Wildlife Arts
Festival, and the Buckhorn School of Fine Arts Annual Show. In recent years
he has received "2nd Prize" and "Honourable Mention" awards at the Wildlife
Art Fest, and 1st Prize and Honourable Mention at the Buckhorn School of
Fine Arts Show.
Barre works primarily in watercolours and soft pastels, out
of his studio/home.
