BIOGRAPHY

BORN

1938 in Poland (to German parents)

EDUCATION

"I was raised, educated, apprenticed and worked as an art bookbinder and book restorer in Germany.  During that time I participated in two nationwide bookbinding competitions.  My work won a silver medal at the first competition and a gold a the second.  I undertook further studies at the Graphic Academy in Munich and graduated in 1963 with a Master Bookbinder certificate.  In 1965 I immigrated into Canada and worked for a publishing company in Toronto, Ontario.  My employment lasted until 1970 when I decided to pursue my ambition as a full-time artist."

AWARDS

Numerous awards at juried shows in local, national and international competitions, including 3rd. prize at an International Watercolour Competition in London, England.

1999  -  "Arts Person of the Year" Award, for the City of Brampton, Ontario.

"Painting is my means of communicating my most intimate impressions of nature, my emotional reaction to life, my deep feeling about my subjects and my world around me.  The medium I use is watercolour, egg-tempera or acrylic, and although most of my work is done in my studio, I take extensive breaks hiking around rural Ontario in search of new subjects, new ideas and new inspiration.  I am a member of the "American Society of Classical Realism," and a lifelong member of the "Brampton Ontario Arts Council".  At present I am dedicating and sharing all of my time between my work as and artist and raising and supporting my son Paul through University on my own, since the death of my wife in a car accident."
