BIOGRAPHY

From a very early age, I was fascinated by colour and design.  I was born into a large family  of modest means, where art had no place in our daily lives,
but growing up in Sorel,  however,  I  refused to abandon my dream over the years.  I was 21 before I was able to begin formal art training at the Ecole
Technique in Ottawa.  My work as a professional photographer for the Canadian aviation industry, eventually took me to Quebec City, where I took  courses at the
Ecole des Beaux Arts, while working as a scientific illustrator at the Valcartier Research Centre.   I also kept painting as much as I could and my
passion soon led to a new career in art.   I like to employ a variety of media to render my work, whether in my “Leros” abstracts, or other diverse subject
matter, such as landscapes of countryside, mountains, fishing villages,  or people.  Images sketched here and there are reorganized on my canvases in infinite
variations.  Arising from fantasy and have no other purpose but to embellish the boundaries of my canvas.   The paintings are whimsical, cheerful and teasing
at times, endearing and free of many a painter’s fear of a white canvas.

My abstract works are of  fantasy and surrealism with glowing treatment of light, with un-expected layers of fanciful embellishments
and suggestive poses.    This has become over time more so where lines become blurred between my abstract and figurative work.

I am particularly fascinated by antique objects and musical instruments, as such objects and musical instruments have a soul,
a history and a life that elicits an intense emotional response from me.  You might notice a violin in some of  my compositions.
This violin has belonged to me since the age of 17, and though silent now since my youth,  its strings still vibrate in my memory,  sometimes crying in pain
and other times singing with joy, but always firing my imagination and inspiring my creativity.  Every day I start with full of enthusiasm and emotion
into my painting reinventing the world in my colours, which are recognizable as my work.  My days are immersed in painting sometimes even into
the night.  Every subject matter is an inspiration for me and I seek solitude and the essential peace of my studio that allows me to further my art into its completion.
I feel that I’m a luckiest  man in having the greatest profession in the world.

I  enjoy studying the work and development of such masters as Goya, Van Gogh, Cezanne or Delacroix.  Museum visits and cultural excursions
also stimulate my own artistic development.  The more I dare to be me, the more I dare to reveal myself and create paintings that are true to my inner
spirit,  and thus the more creative and original my work becomes.
