Born in Lachine, Quebec, Martha Markowsky commutes between Ottawa and Montreal but it is in Ottawa that Martha's career has developed. After dedicating endless hours of perserverance and tenacity to drawing and painting, the rewards surfaced rapidly. Martha is probably best known for her impressionistic paintings of orchestral musical ensembles. Many viewers have delighted in these brightly coloured depictions of tuxedoed musicians. In addition, Martha also paints vibrant nostalgic urban landscapes of children at play as well as interior bar scenes. In the past years, Martha has participated in numerous group shows, has had more than 20 solo exhibitions and is represented by major galleries across Canada.
