BIOGRAPHY

I am an impressionistic painter. The less time I take on a painting I find the work fresher and more exciting than when I spend many hours.

All my works are portraits, whether they be landscapes or figures. I am aiming towards painting with less strokes and more abandon, to keep the work vibrant I find the speed with which I attack my canvasses crucial to the finished work.

The moment the abstract shapes become a larger part of my composition the more successful the painting becomes. When the abstract and realism are fused into one composition the work possesses true strength and power. The final details in a painting should always be avoided as they tend to make the painting stagnant and too complete. The viewer should always have some input in the completion of all works of art. This has been proven by Michelangelo! His final works that he was unable to complete are by far his most profound and powerful.

ARTIST STATEMENT

"In creating an exciting and vibrant image I find the energy of my strokes play an integral part. My biggest challenge lies in the fusion of the abstract shapes in concert with the representational strokes to create a vital and powerful impressionistic image. The unfinished passages in my work take on more importance as I always leave something to the imagination of the viewer. This in my opinion is always a prerequisite to any work of art."
