Sheila Renouf was born in southern England and came to Canada
as a young child. She graduated from art college in the late 1930's and
worked for an art designer for a short period. In 1943, she married and
gave up her career in favour of raising 3 children. It was not until the
mid 1970's that she once again found the time to pursue her interest in
art.
Inspired by the paintings throughout her home done by her aunt,
a professor at the Glasgow College of Art and her father, a talented architect
and amateur artist, she began experimenting with their medium of choice,
watercolours. Being an avid gardener, flowers quickly became her favourite
subject. She also is able to find a variety of colourful specimens to paint
throughout her world travels. STYLE: My aim is to capture the delicate
beauty of every flower I paint in it's natural state and never from a photograph.
I try to compose them in a pleasurable painting. MOTIVE: I am motivated
by the excellency of the beautiful buildings my father has created, also
by the many paintings and sketches done by my father and aunt which are
on the walls of our home. SHOWS: I have exhibited at many art shows
as well as well known galleries. I have been successful at both. Many people
enjoy my art form. I limit the number I do every year as to retain the
quality of my work. My husband and I love to travel and have visited many
countries. I sometimes find different species which I paint. We also have
many interests in common; gardening is very high on the list.
