BIOGRAPHY

Sylvia Garay believes that an artist's painting reflects his/her past life. Whatever she experiences is assimilated into her work. This philosophy is part of a more and more widely held view that life and art are inseparable.

Sylvia Garay's work is largely influenced by the natural world and its colours, rhythms and underlying abstract patterns. Painting and working in her garden is a continuing challenge and joy and attests to the belief that art and life are inseparable.

Born in British Columbia, Garay has studied and painted in Victoria, Halifax, Ottawa and the United Kingdom. She taught painting for several years in Halifax and Ottawa.
