Shirley Mancino

Shirley Mancino is an award winning artist whose passions for life and travel are evident in her colourful and dramatic artworks.  Her distinctive style brings a fresh and vibrant perspective to landscapes, people-scapes, and abstractions.  Hardworking women and the elderly are themes which continue to capture her artistic imagination.  Her dramatic work has an ethereal, mystical quality.  "The mystery in artwork fascinates me.  My goal is to leave something to the imagination.  I want my audience to connect powerfully with my work and to finish what I start.

A trained adult educator and presenter, Shirley speaks eloquently and gives numerous workshops and speeches about art and the 'art of travel'.

Recent paintings depict a fast disappearing world of turbans, rickshaws, carrying poles, and hand-propelled boats.  In 2002 in India, Shirley completed 43 paintings amidst threats of nuclear war, riots, curfews, and soldiers with submachine guns sleeping in adjoining train berths.  On her painting days, onlookers engulf her.  They communicate in Hindi, Thai, or by hand signals; closely examining the artist, her art and her equipment.

She has completed four years at the Ontario College of Art, and has studied at the Haliburton School of Fine Arts, Seneca & George Brown Colleges and Belles Artes Institute in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  Born in Westport, Ontario, her art is often inspired by this beautiful Canadian Shield locale.

Shirley is represent by six galleries in Ontario and her works forms part of collections in both United States and Canada.  She is a member of CARFAC and the Rideau Lakes Artists Association.
